The German manufacturer of premium solar modules is launching smart new systems onto the market. SOLARWATT AG in Dresden is repositioning itself and aligning the company with changing market conditions. “We see ourselves in the future as a premium module manufacturer and provider of smart, end-to-end systems,” says Detlef Neuhaus, Chief Sales Officer (CSO) of SOLARWATT AG. “Our long-term corporate strategy will facilitate astute, forward-looking actions. I believe that, as an innovative and technologically well-placed company, we will succeed in bringing new stimulus to the market,” adds Neuhau
Internationalization and portfolio expansion
The SOLARWATT strategy includes broadening the international scope of corporate activities. Present in the UK since early 2011, SOLARWATT AG is also stepping up its business in France and Italy. “We are interested in all three markets, as we consider the market potential very promising – independent of the various feed-in tariff regulations. We’ve had a positive market response so far,” says the CSO. The company is also considering activities in other countries.
The repositioning of SOLARWATT includes a focus on intelligent systems. “We are the first module manufacturer to launch a smart grid solution for solar energy,” Detlef Neuhaus says. It combines a data logger with an online monitoring portal to ensure optimum use of the solar energy generated.
The new SOLARWATT Easy-In system can be combined with the smart grid solution. Easy-In is a ready-to-install in-roof system that can replace roof tiles entirely, as it is bolted right onto the roof battens. An ingenious installation system cuts installation time in half and also eliminates the cost of conventional roofing. The solar roof is affordable and even earns homeowners money.
The ready-to-install system is available in two “PowerPackages,” each with a 25-year performance guarantee. The Basic version comprises the Easy-In system with all the components necessary for installation (bolts, anchors, etc.) plus the matching inverter. With the Premium package, customers also get an additional monitoring and energy management system as well as complete insurance coverage. Developed in cooperation with Saxony’s roofing trade association, the system meets the guidelines of the Central Association of the German Roofing Trade (ZVDH).
SOLARWATT is also participating in the “EnergieAutarkesHaus” project, enabling the company to establish that self-sufficient solar energy buildings are feasible. The sun provides this house with heat and energy, primarily for its residents’ own consumption. A unique feature of the house is its energy storage unit, which stores the energy it produces for homeowners to use flexibly. SOLARWATT is supplying the modules for the roofintegrated 8.2 kWp photovoltaic system. The house does not rely on any external energy supply and costs about the same as a high-quality single-family home.
“Right now we are working on additional smart systems. These innovations strengthen our position as technology pioneers with high standards in terms of German engineering and respect for engineering traditions. As a technology company, we also aspire to outstanding quality, which we ensure with our own laboratory,” says the CSO. “We do wish, though, that German legislators would support German companies with smart decisions and good judgment. We are concerned at the way the German solar industry, which in recent years had become a technology leader and a positive example for many countries all over the world – not least thanks to federal subsidies – is now experiencing increasing pressure. Germany’s technology edge and thousands of jobs should not be jeopardized.”
